Official Rules

The Rules of Engagement

Standard national 7v7 ruleset with a hard focus on player safety and clean competition.

Field & Format

  • 7-on-7 passing format — no linemen, no rushing the QB.
  • 40-yard field, 40-yard end zone to end zone, 4-yard end zones.
  • First down at midfield. Team has 3 downs to reach midfield, 3 more to score.
  • QB has a 4.0-second pass clock. Any longer = sack (loss of down at previous spot).

Game Length

  • Pool play: two 20-minute halves, running clock.
  • Bracket play: two 22-minute halves, running clock; last 2 minutes of 2nd half = regulation clock.
  • Overtime: alternating possessions from the 10-yard line until a winner is determined.

Scoring

  • Touchdown: 6 points.
  • PAT from 3-yard line = 1 point; from 10-yard line = 2 points.
  • Defensive interception returned for TD: 6 points + possession.
  • Pick-6 on a PAT: 3 points to the defense.

Player Eligibility

  • Age divisions determined by grade entering Fall 2027. Birth certificate or report card required at check-in.
  • Max roster of 18 players. All players must be listed on official roster form by June 1, 2027.
  • No player may compete on more than one team in the event.
  • Varsity division open to any player 12th grade and below (no college eligibility restrictions).

Equipment & Uniforms

  • Soft-shell helmets recommended in all youth divisions (required 12U and below).
  • Mouthpieces mandatory for all players at all times.
  • Rubber or molded cleats only. No metal spikes.
  • Matching uniforms with permanent numbers required. Two uniform colors recommended.

Conduct

  • Zero-tolerance policy for fighting, taunting, or unsportsmanlike conduct. Ejection = 1-game suspension.
  • Coaches responsible for behavior of players, staff, and spectators.
  • Any team forfeit results in loss of tiebreaker eligibility and possible removal.

Tiebreakers (Pool Play)

  • 1) Head-to-head record
  • 2) Point differential (max +/-21 per game)
  • 3) Points allowed
  • 4) Points scored
  • 5) Coin flip (tournament director)
Tournament director has final authority on all rule interpretations and disputes. A full 24-page rulebook will be distributed to registered head coaches 30 days prior to the event.
